CNET Recommends ORIGIN PC for VR Gaming

March 29, 2016 | By Anthony

Have you tried the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset yet?  The much anticipated device was released yesterday to a slew of reviews praising its innovative and immersive technology.  Most reviews you read will also make it a note of mentioning its steep system requirements.  To properly run the Oculus Rift software—or other headsets like the HTC Vive for that matter—you’re going to need a PC with at least a recent Intel i5 or i7 processor and at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290 desktop graphics card.

American media website CNET published a guide last week discussing VR-ready gaming PCs, and among its list were the CHRONOS and the EON17-SLX Extreme Gaming Laptop.  In the case of the CHRONOS, CNET mentions the small size compared to “big tower models” and the overclocked performance boost. As for the EON17-SLX, CNET singles out its status as “one of the only laptops that can run VR hardware”.

The CHRONOS and EON17-SLX can be customized with up to 32GB and 64GB of RAM, respectively.  The CHRONOS supports a single 12GB NVIDIA GTX Titan X GPU while the EON17-SLX supports a VR ready 8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 desktop GPU with G-SYNC.
