Is Your System Ready for Oculus Rift?

February 2, 2016 | By Anthony

Oculus RiftWith each passing year, video games become more and more life-like, providing rewarding experiences that feel closer to a real experience.  Developers can create living, breathing worlds that allow players to do just about anything they like, with details like swaying blades of grass and dynamic weather.  While our custom computers ensure players can crank up the settings to enjoy all of the details, there is always that layer of separation caused by the traditional mouse, keyboard, and monitor setup.

This is where virtual reality systems like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive come in.

The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are perhaps the most well known of the upcoming virtual reality gaming peripherals.  The head-mounted display connects to a PC to deliver one of the most groundbreaking gaming experiences, allowing players a degree of immersion never seen before where they can feel like they are actually in the game.

To deliver the performance necessary for such an experience, players must have a system that can handle the technology.  The Oculus Rift for example requires at least 8GB of RAM, or more  an Intel i5 processor as well as an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD 290 graphics card as a minimum.  However, to ensure the smoothest performance, we strongly suggest a system with 16GB of RAM, an Intel i7 6700k processor, and an NVIDIA 980 Ti GPU or better.  HTC has yet to reveal details on the Vive requirements.

If you’re going to run graphically intensive games using VR technology, you’re definitely going to want a system that can not only handle the minimum requirements but can deliver the same robust performance at higher settings and our models are perfectly suited for the Oculus Rift.

ORIGIN PC’s line of gaming and performance desktops and laptops are designed for tomorrow’s technology, including VR.  Our custom computers come with blazing fast Intel processors, upgradeable RAM, and the latest NVIDIA graphics cards capable of running graphics-intensive games and applications whether it’s virtual reality or 3D modeling.   Call 1-877-674-4460 for more information or visit our website to see some of our VR capable PCs like the EON17-SLX Extreme Gaming Laptop.
